I’ve not managed to find a single bakery here in the south that can make the pumpkin empanadas. Any time I get a chance to visit Detroit, I stop in and get some, and have even managed to get some driven down to me once in a very long while.

It would be wonderful to learn to make them and be able to have them down here all the time since it’s kind of hard to make the 12 hour drive to Detroit as often as I want to eat pumpkin empanadas.

I too live in Mexicantown. I’ve been a resident of this area for the better part of eight years and the mom and pop are intrinsic to me. I enjoy and frequent the mom and pop stores, especially Honeybee. To lose them would begin to begin to erode that which is to me, the fabric of the community. These stores represent community in the truest sense of the world. It is your first warm welcome to a young and diverse neighborhood including a renovated building devoted as a living space and studio for artist, new state of the art schools neighbors that care about themselves, their surroundings and you! Thank you, young NYU Journalism student for visiting our city and our community. I cant
