Thousands of protesters gathered in Washington Square Park yesterday to march through the streets in justice for George Floyd and the many other black lives that were killed by police brutality.
June 8th marked the 12th day of protests since the death of George Floyd, a 46 year-old Black American man from Minneapolis Minnesota who was killed by police. Yesterday also marked the first day of the reopenings of phase one businesses in New York City since the shutdowns began in early March.
As police stood in full riot gear, protesters marched peacefully with passion as they chanted “No Justice, No Peace!” and “Black Lives Matter!” They took a knee in silence several times in the middle of major intersections throughout the march in remembrance of the black lives lost to police brutality.
The protest crowd was diverse and brought people together from all different backgrounds and all over the city.
While many protests have become violent with looting and destruction of buildings and vehicles this march remained peaceful.
